I am not one for 4 hours of continuous circles, I like balls out racing for a few minutes. Might be why I am so terrible in bed.

I am of course talking about competing. I like all watching all forms of racing live(not on TV, that shit's boring). I know nothing about the rules, or whether I can enter or not. Granted my car would be slow as hell, but I don't care I just want to go somewhat fast!!!

Oh yes ! Thank you! I have been searching this video for such a long time, couldn't find it.

That white Impreza is bonkers! I've been trying to replicate this kind of driving and car in every racing game I kind find. Unseccessfully though...

It is so much fun! Particularly on long tracks where every turn is on the limit. Then you watch the replay and be proud of what you just did.

The Gobstopper is fucking impressive! And if you look at what they run for suspension it is actually quite soft for a track car along with a highish ride height. It truly is a masterpiece of tuning. I have a buddy with a 2.5 RS with the EJ25 shoved in there and the JDM STi tranny and he is trying to model his build after the Gobstopper.

From what I know of the car, they have shit tons of power and a relatively soft suspension set up for a track car. I dunno if that helps.

I had one in Forza 4. 2010 Impreza, less power (around 600) but it was really enjoyable. Haven't managed to get something similar in GT6 yet.

In Forza I did a Alfa V6 swap into a GTA Giulia. It had 400 hp and weighed 1600lbs or something. I got the suspension just right to where it would be on the verge of a controlled oversteer. The most fun I ever had playing Forza.

I want to do that too! Although, the roads are a bit narrower than a track.

Pretty much if the car is squirrely under power you got a similar build going. here is a dyno chart showing their power figures of the first Gobstopper.

I don't have any pictures of the car, but it is a USDM STi motor from an '04 or '05 that ended up getting rebuilt with a bunch of Tomei internals and is putting 375 torques and 325 horsies to the ground with about 330 torques available at around 2500 RPM. . . The motor is a beast and way over built for the power it is putting down right now. If I remember correctly he is turbo limited on power right now but he wants to get used to driving the car at this level before he goes more crazy in the engine department. I don't know if he completed the chassis stiffening project yet, but he was in the process of throwing all the chassis bracing he could at the car in an effort to stiffen up the chassis so it doesn't feel like a wet noodle built in 1999.

I am always tempted to try to get one of my cars into something like this for fun:

http://modified.com/events/1401-20…

The problem is then I feel compelled to spend a lot more money on upgrades than I probably should...

Kinja'd!!! Casper > YSI-what can brown do for you

Kinja'd!!!0

Well, the kind of mods needed for that event are in the $20,000+ range to be competitive. Generally they have full shop cars there. In order to have a shot I would have to run my 240Z, which means jumping straight to my 4th build phase and doing the turbo, injectors, standalone, etc, as well as bumping my suspension to coilovers and probably higher end systems like the Arizona Z system.

I don't think my wife would forgive me if the car that has taken over a year to just get put together and painted were to get another huge chunk of money (probably financed) against it to participate in an event that doesn't really have a cash reward.... and probably result in an engine overhaul afterwards.

I wouldn't run it at full boost. Run it with a reliable amount of power and just go and have fun! I think keeping the momentum of a car moving though the corners is a lot more fun then accelerating then decelerating.

Also, what engine are you using? Is it an L-series or are you going RB?

I am liking what I am hearing. I want to do something similar as well once I get out of school. Buy a cheap DD, convert FRS into full on race car. Tomei makes awesome parts for Subarus. I want their Ej26sb , it can easily handle 5 to 600 hp.

Do you know what size turbo he is going to go with, or has that not been decided yet? Also, what is the desired power level?

This build is with an SR20DET. With this engine it's a true MR car, but I still think I would have liked to try and F20C build too. If I go with the EFR 6758 I was considering, I should have head room for really early boost and be somewhere over 400HP at the ground. If I moved to a 8374 twin scroll there's no way I could max the turbo without a full bottom end build since I have seen 800HP+ from them. All of this would basically force me to move the car toward being a dedicated track car.... like what happened to my last Z, which I would like to avoid.

I think it would just be better to not push it for an event like this and run hill climbs and autocross for fun with it.

I want to keep early boost and good response, so that's why I would prefer to stick with something like a 6758 or the like. This dyno is of one on a SR20DET:

Oh yeah, I always forget about the SR20. I remember hearing that early 90s Sentras came with the engine. Funny how the 240sx here didn't.

Twin scrolls are bit of overkill, on the twins there is a twin scroll set up that makes around 450 to 500whp on the stock engine. It is fracking ridiculous.

I know this is your car, but if I were you I would go with a smaller of the two. 400hp is more than enough for the little car and it won't make it too much of a handful. Although I think 350hp would be the sweet spot.

Kinja'd!!! Casper > YSI-what can brown do for you
01/31/2014 at 14:03

Kinja'd!!!0

Even the single scroll 6758 is rated to 500 HP and makes 22psi around 3500rpms. I would just tune it down to somewhere between 300HP and 400HP depending on what we see while actually tuning the car and the driving character.

I'm not sure he has decided on any of that yet, I do think his end game goal is in the 500ish horsie range. I do believe that is what he built his motor for but he likes torque more than horsepower so I think the car may be fairly limited on the horsies and just be made into a torque monster. He was toying with the idea of being the only car in the states with the Tomei IRTB kit on his car but I don't think he's going to shell out the $5,000 on having them build it, as it stands I think there are only like 6 cars that are running that right now.

His car kinda looks like shit from the last time I saw it, the hood wasn't painted and the paintwork has clear coat failure all over the place and he is running the stock 2.5RS wheels with the Michelin PSS for tires, needless to say he looks like he is driving a junk car with a loud ass straight pipe titanium exhaust and it absolutely whoops on anything out there. For some reason G37s and 370Zs like to try and bait him into racing and quickly give up after they get dusted with him barely trying. That god damn car is quick! A lot has to do with the closer and shorter ratio JDM STi tranny and really gearing is everything with the AWD subies.

His car is the reason I want to find a bug eyed 2.5RS wagon and just go crazy with it. I am amazed at the torque those motors can produce. His motor is producing about 100 ftlbs of torque than the horsies from 2,000-4,500 RPM.

How much does the car weigh? I can't see it being more than 2500lbs. If that is the case 300 to 400 will make it a rocket!

I don't think it is worth it for 5 grand, and considering he wants to make more torque down low, ITBs are not ideal. They are more for high end power. Plus they are a pain to tune and don't like changing weather conditions.

I always kind of wanted an EJ just for that reason. The FA20 is a great engine. . . kind of, but it hasn't been tested to extreme like the EJ, not to mention the aftermarket support. You can make them however you want!

I usually get challenged by Subaru owners and for some reason a bro truck. I turn them down, just cause I don't feel like racing on the street, and I know I will lose. What are you going to do though. Your friend would have probably destroy them if he did it from a stop. AWD FTW!!

It should be somewhere between 2200lbs and 2300lbs. Maybe less or more depending on how much fuel and what I do for safety.

Hahaha I know the ITB's would be not the best way about getting power, I think he wants to do it just to laugh at the stance kids and the douches that think they have a badass STi. . .

To be honest I really have no idea what his final plans are as he gets fickle with his build plans at times.

Yeah his car is just a ridiculous monster that pulls no matter where you are in the revs. It really isn't that violent either the delivery is smooth and very well controlled.

One day I will have a bug eyed STi wagon. . .

Driving with virtually no sleep for 2 days, going very fast, and a mule deer. Turns out your reaction time/judgement isn't as good when you are exhausted and deer give no fucks about cars. Back flipped it and rolled it multiple times. Cops said it bounced high enough to clear a field goal from what the accident investigator said, but all I remember was grabbing fourth and trying to swerve, missing the deer, but swapping ends because I was going way to fast to go to fourth just dropping the clutch, then going over upside down and breaking the driver window with my head. Next thing I know, I'm standing by a cop car explaining it while the ambulance drives off and forgets me.

Holy shit! That is ridiculous. I can't stand deer, they are literally the stupidest creatures I have ever "met." I have had a few run in with deers and they were kind of close calls. Most of the time it was me just hitting the breaks pretty hard.

Yeah, I hit the brakes hard... but they don't do a whole lot at 130MPH+ ;) I give most of the fault to myself in this run in.

I'm not entirely sure they aren't doing it on purpose. One jumped into the fender of the car when my wife was driving home a few years ago. She was completely stopped and it just came running back on the road and into the car.

I think they just really hate nice cars.
